A few years prior I had bought a pack of three wind-up motors from American Science and Surplus. I finally made bodies for them at the turn of 2024.
3D printed then hand-painted with acrylic model paints. The body slides over the motor and is held in place by friction. The arms screw on, and the heads and bodies are friction-fit together with a piece of cut filament. Each robot has a different head, but the rest of them are the same models with different plastic and/or paint.
The wind-up motors have two wheels built in, and a bump on the bottom of the 3D-printed body balances it out. Hold the robot down, wind it up, and release it. It moves fairly quickly, sometimes turning.
